New Delhi, August 11 (H.S.) – Opposition MPs, led by the Congress party, staged a protest march on Monday from Parliament House to the Election Commission headquarters against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar and alleged “vote theft” in elections.

The protest saw participation from Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, and senior leaders from Trinamool Congress, DMK, and several other parties.

During the hour-long demonstration, MPs raised slogans such as “Stop Vote Theft” and “End SIR.” Many leaders wore white caps inscribed with “SIR” and “Vote Theft,” marked with a red cross symbol.

Police had set up barricades in advance near the RBI Gate, a short distance from Parliament House, to stop the march. As MPs reached the barricades, they were halted, prompting Akhilesh Yadav, Aditya Yadav, and Dharmendra Yadav to jump over them.

With heavy police deployment at the spot, tensions escalated, and police detained Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and several other opposition leaders.

Opposition MPs alleged that under the pretext of SIR, millions of names were being removed from the voter list, calling it a threat to democracy. They claimed the process goes against the spirit of free and fair elections and accused the government of manipulating voter rolls for electoral gain.

Leaders demanded that the Election Commission immediately halt the process and warned that if their demands were not met, the agitation would be intensified.
