Amritsar, September 2: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Amritsar Police Commissionerate launched a large-scale search operation early Wednesday morning. Approximately 10 suspects have been detained for questioning, and around 8 to 10 suspicious vehicles have been seized during the operation.
The police action took place in the Unghar area of Amritsar. Officers cordoned off the entire region and conducted searches of homes and other suspicious locations with the help of multiple teams. About 150 police personnel participated in this extensive operation, causing considerable activity in the area for several hours.
Speaking to the media, DCP Law and Order Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu stated that a special search model and operation had been developed based on directives from the police commissioner. Authorities received information indicating that individuals were covertly engaged in drug trafficking in neighborhoods including Unghar, Palla, and Shekhan. Acting on this intelligence, the police systematically sealed off the area and initiated the search operation.
DCP Sandhu mentioned that the operation involved senior officials, including ADC-1, along with station heads from the central area and a large contingent of police forces. Different teams were formed to conduct checks in various parts of the locality. The police also gathered information about the drug situation in the area by interacting with suspicious individuals.
During the operation, some residents reported that drug trafficking had decreased compared to previous times; however, the police are still conducting a thorough investigation. Several narcotics and alcoholic substances were seized during the search operation.
According to DCP Sandhu, about 10 suspects have been rounded up for questioning, and 8 to 10 suspicious vehicles have been confiscated due to discrepancies in their registration numbers and documents.
Police officials stated that a comprehensive investigation of all suspects and vehicles is underway. Legal action will be taken based on the findings from the seizures and interrogations. Currently, this police operation is viewed as a crucial step in curbing the drug network and suspicious activities in the area.
