Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar has responded to the protests against the new University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations. He stated that if the general category feels distrustful of the government, they should approach the courts for resolution.
Speaking to news agencies, Minister Rajbhar noted that the UGC committee included 17 members from the general category who also shared their views. He added, “The report prepared and the law enacted are based on these discussions. If anyone has any issues with the law, the government will form a committee that will submit a report within 15 days. Any shortcomings found will be corrected.”
Rajbhar reminded that when the 27 percent reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) was implemented, the same category had opposed it initially. They had approached the Supreme Court, which upheld the reservation, leading to its enforcement. He suggested that if the general category has doubts or lacks trust in the government now, they should similarly seek relief from the Supreme Court.
Addressing the controversy involving Swami Avimukteshwaranand, Rajbhar said, “Sadhus and saints participate in the Sangam Snan to fulfil their spiritual goals, not to become pawns in political games. Shankaracharya, in this context, has become a political pawn.”
He further stated that performing rituals and staying peacefully during the bathing event should not cause any problems. However, he criticised those making baseless statements against the Prime Minister and Chief Minister, noting that opposition leaders have become their guides, clearly indicating political motives.
Regarding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remarks, Rajbhar accused her of politicising the death of Ajit Pawar. He said, “There may be enmity with Ajit Pawar, but what enmity was there with Pilot? Four people died along with him. What enmity was there with those four? This is their issue. The government is doing its work. People can say anything for the sake of saying.”
