African Athletes Dominate Wuhan Marathon in 2026

Beijing, March 24: The 2026 Wuhan Marathon took place on March 22 in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province in central China. African athletes swept the top three positions in both the men’s and women’s full marathon categories.

Kenyan runner John Mburu Muiru clinched the men’s title with a time of 1 hour, 10 minutes, and 16 seconds. Meanwhile, Kenyan female athlete Veronicah Njery Maina secured first place in the women’s category, setting a new record with a time of 2 hours, 24 minutes, and 14 seconds.

Chinese athlete He Chye finished fourth in the men’s category with a time of 2 hours, 10 minutes, and 56 seconds. In the women’s race, Chinese runner Chu Qing also placed fourth, clocking in at 2 hours, 24 minutes, and 14 seconds.

This year’s Wuhan Marathon started north of the Yangtze River, with the finish line located to the south. The route showcased stunning views of the river, expansive lakes, and the vibrant city of Wuhan, passing through seven central districts.
