New Delhi, July 19: Just a day before the commencement of the Parliament’s Monsoon Session, the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Lok Sabha convened on Sunday. The meeting was chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who invited all political parties to share suggestions on public interest issues.
During the meeting, Speaker Birla encouraged representatives from various political parties to express their views on topics they wish to include in the agenda for the upcoming session. Members from the government and different political factions shared their insights on legislative and other matters to be presented during the Monsoon Session.
Participants proposed several issues of public interest and national significance for discussion during the session. Om Birla emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue, meaningful participation, and adherence to the high traditions of Parliament.
He urged all parties to cooperate fully to ensure that the proceedings of the House run smoothly and systematically, allowing for comprehensive and positive discussions on matters affecting the public.
The committee took note of the suggestions made by members. The decision regarding the time allocated for discussions and the agenda will be determined according to established parliamentary procedures, following consultations with government and political party leaders.
Speaker Birla expressed confidence that all members would work together to make the Monsoon Session successful and dignified in the interest of the public.
In a related development, a meeting was held in the Parliament complex under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss issues related to the upcoming Monsoon Session. This meeting was attended by 58 leaders from 40 political parties, including several ministers, and was convened by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
Among those present were Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda, who is also the leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Information & Broadcasting L. Murugan.
Rajnath Singh informed the leaders that the Monsoon Session would commence on Monday and could extend until August 13, depending on the government’s legislative needs. He noted that the session would last for 25 days, comprising 19 meetings.
Kiren Rijiju stated that details regarding the legislative business for the upcoming Monsoon Session had already been released in Bulletin Part-2 by the secretariats of both Houses on July 16. He urged all leaders to assist in ensuring smooth parliamentary proceedings and mentioned that the government is prepared to discuss any other significant issues in accordance with the rules of both Houses.
Leaders from various political parties shared their thoughts on potential issues to be raised during the Monsoon Session and assured their cooperation with the government. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister acknowledged all the issues raised by the leaders and thanked them for their participation and active engagement in the meeting.
