Kottayam, June 20: A significant political and social clash has erupted in Kerala. G. Sukumaran Nair, the General Secretary of the Nair Service Society (NSS), launched a sharp personal attack on Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Saturday.
He accused Satheesan of arrogance and announced that the organization will no longer request time to meet him or plead for appointments.
The NSS is a powerful social organization representing the Hindu Nair community. This strong criticism was made during the annual budget meeting held at the NSS headquarters in Perunna.
Sukumaran Nair expressed his frustration over the Chief Minister’s office allegedly rejecting requests for a meeting. He stated that the NSS had reached out to the office twice to address community-related issues but received no response.
The NSS leadership aimed to draw the state government’s attention to technical issues related to income tax amendments affecting the organization. They also wanted to discuss further actions regarding a memorandum submitted during the previous leftist government’s tenure.
However, the repeated failure to secure a meeting time has left the leadership upset, interpreting it as a deliberate oversight.
Sukumaran Nair remarked, “Two attempts were made to secure a meeting, but no time was given. The NSS will no longer chase after anyone. Perunna will not beg before anyone.”
He also referenced Satheesan’s past statements, where he claimed he would not seek the doors of community leaders for support during elections.
Nair alleged that Satheesan, who previously visited the NSS headquarters seeking support, has changed after coming to power.
These statements have further strained the already tense relationship between the Congress leadership and the influential community organization.
Traditionally, the NSS has maintained a neutral stance towards political parties. However, it now appears to be heading towards an open confrontation with its own community’s Chief Minister.
This latest attack has also caused unease within parts of the Congress and the ruling coalition. Leaders have warned that alienating large community organizations could lead to political difficulties.
