Notorious Criminal Shot Dead in Encounter with STF in Moradabad

Moradabad, April 2: In a significant operation, the Special Task Force (STF) has eliminated a notorious criminal, Ashu Chadda, also known as Monty, who had a bounty of ₹50,000 on his head. This encounter occurred in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, through a joint effort by the STF’s Meerut unit and local police. Chadda was identified as a sharpshooter for the infamous Udham Singh gang, posing a long-standing challenge for law enforcement.

According to police reports, Ashu Chadda faced a total of 36 serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, and extortion. Recently, he was wanted for demanding ₹5 crore in extortion from a local businessman and for a violent attack. Continuous raids were conducted to apprehend him, and the STF received crucial information regarding his whereabouts.

Acting on this intelligence, the STF team set up a blockade. Chadda opened fire on the police, leading to a fierce exchange. He sustained severe injuries during the encounter and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.

From the encounter site, police recovered a Swift car, a factory-made .32 caliber pistol, a revolver, a 12-bore shotgun, a significant quantity of ammunition, and several spent cartridges. This haul underscores his extensive criminal network and activities.

Investigations revealed that Ashu was originally from Mirpur Kala village in Hapur district. He had been imprisoned in 2010 for murder, where he met members of the Udham Singh gang. After being released on bail, he began collaborating with them.

Gradually, he turned to a life of crime, engaging in robbery, murder, and extortion. According to police officials, he became a trusted shooter for the gang and was involved in several major incidents.

STF officials stated that this encounter sends a strong message to active criminals in the region. The police affirmed that their campaign against crime and criminals will continue with the same vigor.
