Notorious Chain Snatcher Arrested in New Delhi, Accomplice Detained

New Delhi, April 8: The police have apprehended a notorious chain snatcher and his accomplice in the Dwarka district of Dabri. Authorities seized a fake number plate and a motorcycle from the suspect. Additionally, 80,000 rupees in cash was recovered from his accomplice.

The incident occurred on March 26, when a 58-year-old woman was returning from a prayer ceremony on Ram Navami. The suspect snatched her gold chain while riding a motorcycle. The victim promptly reported the crime to the police.

To investigate the case, a team was formed under Sub-Inspector Anil Kumar, along with Assistant Sub-Inspector Dharmendra, Head Constable Bachhu, and Head Constable Rajendra, led by SHO Dabri Inspector Ganga Ram Meena. The team analyzed over 250 CCTV footage from a 25-kilometer radius and traced the suspect’s location near Vasant Kunj.

During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Karan Shivpuri, also known as Kanchi, aged 32. He has previously been involved in 27 criminal cases. Karan was arrested near Masoodpur Dairy, Vasant Kunj, and confessed to his crime during interrogation. Authorities recovered a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle, a fake number plate, and the clothing he wore during the incident.

Karan revealed that he had given the stolen chain to his accomplice, Vipin Kumar, also known as Bunty, aged 32. Upon questioning Vipin, police discovered that he sold the chain for 118,000 rupees to Himanshu Verma, the owner of Balaji Jewelers in Mahipalpur, via a money transfer. The police also recovered 80,000 rupees from Vipin, which was obtained from the chain theft. Meanwhile, Himanshu Verma remains at large, and efforts to locate him are ongoing.
