
Chennai, April 7: The nomination process for the 234 members of the Tamil Nadu Assembly concluded on Monday. The scrutiny of nomination papers will commence on Tuesday at 11 AM, marking a crucial phase in the electoral process.
Voting in the state is scheduled for April 23, with the counting of votes set for May 4.
Election officials have stated that there is no fixed timeline for the scrutiny of nominations. While this process typically concludes within a day, constituencies with a higher number of nominations may require additional time.
Details of rejected nominations are expected to be available by Tuesday afternoon. Candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their nominations until April 9. By that afternoon, the final list of candidates contesting the elections is anticipated to be published, providing a clear picture of the electoral competition across all constituencies.
The nomination process began on March 30, with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin filing his nomination from Kolathur, Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam leader Vijay from Perambur, and Naam Tamilar Katchi’s chief coordinator Seeman from Karaikudi on the first day.
On the first day alone, a total of 573 nominations were submitted. The pace of applications significantly increased in the following days. On April 2, 788 candidates submitted their nomination papers, and on April 4, there was a substantial rise in submissions, with 2,069 nominations filed. By the end of the first three days, the total number of nominations reached 3,430.
Prominent candidates who submitted their nominations on the final day included AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who filed his papers from the Edappadi constituency in Salem district. This marks his eighth consecutive election from this seat.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed that the supplementary voter list has been finalized and will be printed soon. The integrated final voter list is expected to be released shortly, creating an intense atmosphere for the electoral battle in the state.
