
New Delhi, April 14: A devastating boiler explosion occurred at the Vedanta Power Plant in Singhitrai, Sakti district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday afternoon. This tragic incident resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, while 20 workers and employees sustained serious injuries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over this unfortunate event and announced compensation for the victims’ families.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister’s Office quoted PM Modi saying, “The accident at a power plant in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh, is extremely tragic. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to those who have lost their loved ones in this incident. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
The PMO further stated, “The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected. Each family of the deceased will receive a compensation of ₹2 lakh from the PMNRF, while the injured will be given ₹50,000.”
Earlier, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel, expressed his sorrow in a post on X, stating, “The news of the horrific accident caused by the boiler explosion at the Vedanta Power Plant in Singhitrai, Sakti district, is extremely distressing. The reports of some workers losing their lives and others being injured are deeply troubling. My heartfelt condolences are with the grieving families.”
He added, “I pray that the departed souls find peace and that the families are granted the strength to bear this unbearable loss. The district administration is present at the site, and relief and rescue operations are underway. Necessary directives have been issued for the better treatment of the injured. I pray for the swift recovery of all individuals affected by this accident. A thorough and impartial investigation will be conducted, and strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.”
