Amritsar, April 14: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann launched a significant financial aid scheme for women above 18 years of age on Tuesday, coinciding with the birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar. This initiative aims to provide monthly financial assistance to women, with beneficiaries receiving ₹1,000 each month, while women from the Scheduled Caste community will receive ₹1,500.
The Chief Minister announced the commencement of the registration process. All women over 18 can apply for this scheme with just three essential documents. Additionally, a network of camps and support staff will facilitate home visits to assist applicants.
The scheme has initially been rolled out in nine assembly constituencies, with plans to expand to the remaining 108 areas by May 15. Payments are set to begin in July, and there is no deadline for registration.
With 26,000 registration centers and ‘Mahila Satkar Sakhi’ deployed in every village and ward, this initiative aims to ensure widespread implementation and accessibility. It is one of the largest direct economic assistance programs launched for women in the country.
CM Mann, alongside senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia, announced that the pilot project has begun in nine locations, including Amritsar, Malout, Anandpur Sahib, Dirba, Sunam, Moga, Kotkapura, Batala, and Patiala Rural.
He stated, “Registration for women in the remaining 108 assembly constituencies will start on May 15. Monthly payments of ₹1,000 or ₹1,500 will commence in July.”
CM Mann reassured that there is no final date for registration. Women need not worry about when they register—be it April 15, May 15, or August 15. Late registration will not affect their benefits; they will receive full payments starting from July. Thus, even if they register by the end of September, they will still receive payments for July, August, and September.
Addressing concerns of women lacking caste certificates, he said, “I understand many of my SC sisters and mothers do not have certificates, but there’s no need to worry. They can simply apply for their certificates.”
He added that even if there are delays, women can register for the scheme without a certificate and start receiving ₹1,000 monthly. Once their certificate is issued, the state government will also provide ₹500 per month retroactively from July. There’s no need for concern in this regard.
To ensure 100% coverage for all women over 18 and assist in the registration process, the Punjab government will appoint ‘Mahila Satkar Sakhis’ in every village and ward across Punjab.
These representatives will visit beneficiaries’ homes, explain the benefits of the scheme, address any doubts, and provide registration forms. They will guide applicants through the entire registration process, clarify required documents, and resolve any questions or issues.
