Nirmala Sitharaman Announces Key Initiatives for Uttar Pradesh in Union Budget 2026

New Delhi: In the Union Budget 2026-27, several significant announcements were made for Uttar Pradesh, including the establishment of emergency trauma centres in all districts, hostels for working women, and the development of high-speed rail corridors connecting key cities like Varanasi.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget in Parliament on Sunday. She outlined plans to promote environmentally friendly passenger systems by creating seven high-speed rail corridors connecting major cities. Among these are the Delhi-Varanasi and Varanasi-Siliguri high-speed rail corridors.

Highlighting the budget’s focus on inclusive growth, the Finance Minister emphasized increasing farmers’ incomes, empowering persons with disabilities, and ensuring access to mental health and trauma care for vulnerable groups. She also announced the establishment of a port in Varanasi for the repair of water vessels, aimed at boosting local infrastructure.

Building on the success of the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme, the budget proposes the launch of ‘She Mart’ outlets in rural areas. These community-owned retail centres will be set up as self-help enterprises within cluster-level federations, supporting women to transition from loan-based livelihoods to entrepreneurship through enhanced and innovative financing.

Crucially, emergency trauma centres will be opened across all districts of Uttar Pradesh. The Finance Minister noted the absence of a national mental health institute in North India and announced the establishment of NIMHANS-2 to address this gap. To strengthen emergency care, 50 percent of district hospitals will be equipped with trauma and emergency care centres, focusing particularly on aiding families facing unexpected expenses during emergencies.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the budget, describing it as a symbol of hope and aspiration. He highlighted the emphasis on AYUSH and health sectors, the plan to build hostels for women in every district, and the creation of opportunities for youth across various fields. According to him, these measures will accelerate India’s economic growth and contribute to the vision of a developed India.
