Quetta (Balochistan), October 23 (Daily Kiran): In a fresh wave of violence in Pakistan’s troubled Balochistan province, nine officials of a construction company were abducted by armed men in Mastung district on Wednesday, triggering panic from Quetta to Islamabad.

According to reports from The Balochistan Post (Pashto edition), a group of armed men forcibly took away nine company officials from a government project site in the area. Following the abduction, several armed men reportedly blocked the Quetta–Karachi highway near Mangchar in Kalat district, checking vehicles and holding the route for over an hour.

Witnesses said that during the blockade, gunfire and explosions were also heard in the vicinity.

Soon after the incident, Pakistani security forces cordoned off the entire region and launched a large-scale search operation to trace the abducted officials. However, as of now, no information has been received about their whereabouts.

Victims Believed to Be from Punjab and Sindh

According to Mastung police, the abducted officials hail from Punjab and Sindh provinces. They were reportedly working at a government construction project site when armed men surrounded the area, held the staff at gunpoint, and took the nine officials away to an undisclosed location.

Authorities have not yet released details about the identity of the kidnappers or the group responsible.

This latest abduction underscores the deteriorating security situation in Balochistan, where militant and separatist groups have repeatedly targeted non-local workers, government projects, and security personnel in recent years.
