New Delhi, March 13: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary chargesheet against two additional accused in a Bihar case registered in 2022. This case is linked to the banned organization, Popular Front of India (PFI), which allegedly conspired to disrupt peace and communal harmony in the state.
On Wednesday, the NIA submitted the supplementary chargesheet in a special court in Patna, raising the total number of arrested and accused individuals in this case to 20.
According to the agency, the investigation revealed that Mehboob Alam, the Bihar state president of PFI, and Shamim Akhtar, the state vice president, were actively involved in this conspiracy. Charges have been filed against both under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The NIA stated that the accused aimed to create an atmosphere of fear in society and promote religious discord.
The conspiracy sought to advance PFI’s ideology of establishing Islamic rule in India, justifying the use of criminal forces for this purpose. During the investigation, an internal document titled “India 2047: Towards Rule of Islam in India, Internal Document – Not for Circulation” was referenced, allegedly outlining this ideology.
The NIA took over this case from the Bihar police in July 2022. The investigation also revealed that Mehboob Alam and Shamim Akhtar were involved in recruiting and training PFI cadres. The agency noted that both accused participated in PFI meetings and training programs held at Ahmad Palace in the Phulwari Sharif area of Patna.
During the initial investigation, local police recovered PFI’s vision document from Ahmad Palace. NIA officials have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, and the roles of other accused individuals are still being examined.
