NIA Files Charges Against Three PLA Cadres in Manipur Attack

New Delhi, March 19: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against three cadres of the banned organization People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in connection with a terrorist attack on an Assam Rifles truck in Manipur. This attack, which occurred in September 2025, resulted in the deaths of two Assam Rifles personnel and left five others seriously injured.

The chargesheet, submitted to a special court in Imphal, identifies the accused as Thongram Sadanand Singh alias Nagachik alias Purkapa, Khundongbam Oji Meitei alias Keilal, and Irenbam Jugindra Meitei alias Jugin Meitei. All three are residents of Manipur and have already been apprehended by law enforcement agencies. The charges against them include various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Arms Act, the Public Property Damage Prevention Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The attack took place at the Nambol Sabal Leikai intersection in Bishnupur district of Manipur. NIA investigations revealed that the PLA cadres were equipped with prohibited firearms and explosives when they ambushed the Assam Rifles’ 33 Battalion truck, causing significant damage. The NIA believes this attack was part of a broader conspiracy by the PLA to instill terror, destabilize the nation, and wage war against the Indian government.

The NIA took over the investigation from local police in November 2025. During the inquiry, evidence of organized conspiracy, weapon availability, and attack planning was uncovered. The accused face serious charges, including terrorism, attempted murder, damage to government property, and illegal use of explosives.

This case is registered under RC-03/2025/NIA/IMP. The NIA has stated that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to locate other individuals involved. Organizations like the PLA remain active in the Northeast and continue to target security forces. This chargesheet is expected to accelerate anti-terrorism efforts and ensure justice.
