NIA Files Charges Against Pakistani Terrorist Shahzad Bhatti and Seven Others

New Delhi, July 11: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against eight accused in connection with the car bomb blast that occurred in January at the parking area of the Baldev Nagar police station in Ambala. Among those named is Shahzad Bhatti, a Pakistani gangster turned terrorist.

Bhatti, who is also wanted in other terrorism cases, along with seven arrested Indian nationals, faces charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967, the BNS Act of 2023, the Explosive Substances Act of 1908, and the Telecommunications Act of 2023.

In addition to Bhatti, the chargesheet identifies other accused as Karamjeet Singh alias Tony, Akash, Saurav alias Sobi, Raman Kumar, Satyam, Sukdev Singh alias Sukha, and Amarjeet Singh alias Ambi.

The chargesheet, submitted in a special NIA court in Panchkula, Haryana, details the roles of the accused and the conspiracy orchestrated by Bhatti, aimed at instilling fear among the public by targeting police establishments, specifically attacking the Baldev Nagar police station in Ambala.

According to the NIA’s investigation, the Pakistani terrorist had established operational modules in India and tasked local operatives with arranging logistics and explosive materials for attacks on police establishments. Akash served as Bhatti’s main operative in India, responsible for coordinating the attacks with co-accused individuals.

During the investigation, the NIA discovered that the Baldev Nagar police station was targeted after reconnaissance of potential targets. Some accused parked a vehicle filled with gas cylinders and explosive materials within the police station premises and even recorded a video of the incident for propaganda purposes.

The NIA’s investigation also revealed that Bhatti recruited and radicalized the accused through social media platforms and encrypted communication channels. Various digital, electronic, documentary, and forensic evidence confirmed that the accused were in contact with their handler during the planning of the attack.
