New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out extensive raids at several locations across Kerala on Wednesday in connection with a 2022 jihadi criminal conspiracy case linked to the banned organisation Popular Front of India (PFI). During the operation, the agency seized a significant amount of objectionable material.
The NIA conducted searches at nine different sites in the state, recovering numerous digital devices, critical documents, and other incriminating items associated with PFI and its affiliated or subsidiary groups.
This case, registered by the NIA in September 2022, pertains to a criminal conspiracy by PFI aimed at spreading violent jihadi ideology in India. The plot allegedly involved plans to divide the country and establish an Islamic rule by the year 2047.
The investigation revealed that PFI leaders and cadres were engaged in radicalising youth to create communal divisions. The affected young individuals were reportedly given weapons training, and funds were collected to carry out terrorist and violent activities.
Further findings disclosed that PFI operated through various wings and units such as a ‘Reporters Wing’, ‘Physical and Arms Training Wing’, and ‘Service Teams’ or ‘Hit Teams’. The organisation used its premises and facilities, disguised as centres for physical education and yoga training, to train select cadres in weapon handling. The hit teams were allegedly trained to eliminate designated targets.
The NIA has stated that the investigation is ongoing and reaffirmed its commitment to taking firm action against all jihadi activities in the country.
