Maharajganj, August 30: Local residents in Maharajganj and Chandauli have dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s claims regarding the use of separate cups for Dalits.
In a conversation, local resident Rajiv Dubey stated, “I live in Nautanwa and visit the tea shop daily. There’s no such issue here; everyone is treated equally at the tea shop. Rahul Gandhi’s claim is completely incorrect.”
Another local, Shyam Madheshia, added, “We sit at the Nautanwa Bypass tea shop. There is nothing of the sort happening here. No one is asked about their caste before being served tea. Everyone receives tea equally. Rahul Gandhi’s statement is entirely false; it’s just a rumor.”
Sanjay Madheshia, who runs a tea shop, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “What Rahul Gandhi stated is not true. We do not ask anyone’s caste at the shop. Every person who comes here is respected. Everyone enjoys their tea happily. This is just a rumor spread by Rahul Gandhi.”
Umesh Yadav from Nautanwa mentioned, “Everyone who visits the shop drinks from the same cup. There’s nothing happening here; it’s just a rumor.”
Tea shop owners in Chandauli also refuted Rahul Gandhi’s claims about ‘two types of cups.’ Shopkeeper Shardanand Mishra remarked, “We do not ask anyone’s caste before serving tea. All our customers are like deities to us, and we treat them accordingly.”
Deepak Kumar Ratwani, another shop owner, stated, “For any shopkeeper, customers are divine. We cannot discriminate among them; all are equal. Whether they are Dalits, OBCs, or General category, they are all like gods to me. I drink from the same cup as my customers. It’s impossible for a shopkeeper to differentiate between customers. Rahul Gandhi’s statement is fabricated.”
Santu Mal emphasized that there is no discrimination based on wealth or caste here. “Everyone is treated equally. There is no bias. Customers drink from the same cups they are served.”
