NIA Conducts Raids Across Four States in Arms Smuggling Case Linked to Pakistan

New Delhi, May 29: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched simultaneous raids across four states on Friday, targeting a case involving the smuggling of weapons, ammunition, and IEDs from Pakistan into India.

A total of 12 locations were searched as part of this extensive operation. In Uttar Pradesh, NIA teams conducted searches at four sites, while two locations were targeted in Rajasthan, two in Bihar, and three in Maharashtra.

During this coordinated effort, several digital devices were seized. These will undergo forensic analysis to uncover the full extent of the terrorist conspiracy behind the smuggling operation.

The investigation began in February when the Special Operations Cell in Amritsar, Punjab, arrested an individual. This suspect was found in possession of an improvised explosive device (IED) packed in a metal container with a remote control set, a mobile handset, a foreign-made .30 caliber pistol (with magazine), and 20 live cartridges. Subsequently, a case was registered under various sections of the BNS, UA (P) Act, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, and NDPS Act.

Upon taking over the investigation, the NIA discovered that the purpose of this cross-border smuggling was to carry out IED explosions in Punjab, Delhi, and other parts of India. The intent was to cause significant loss of life and property, thereby disrupting peace and stability in the country.

Further investigations revealed that the arrested suspect was in contact with several individuals across different regions of the country. His aim was to spread terror, commit arson, and engage in other violent activities. Efforts are ongoing to identify other Indian and foreign elements involved in this conspiracy.

Earlier this month, Punjab police achieved a significant breakthrough in Amritsar by dismantling a major international arms trafficking module, leading to the arrest of four suspects. During this operation, police recovered seven sophisticated pistols, including two Glock 9mm pistols (manufactured in Austria), four .30 caliber pistols (made in China), and another .30 caliber pistol.
