Southampton, June 16: New Zealand has set a challenging target of 151 runs for Sri Lanka in the seventh match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, held at the Rose Bowl. Captain Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine played crucial roles in reaching this score.
After winning the toss, New Zealand opted to bat first but faced an early setback. Isabella Gaze lost her wicket to Mithali Ayodhya on the third ball of the innings, contributing only 4 runs to the team. Following this, Amelia Kerr stabilized the innings alongside Georgia Plimmer, forming a partnership of 49 runs for the second wicket.
Georgia scored 18 runs off 22 balls, including two boundaries, before being dismissed. Kerr then teamed up with Sophie Devine to add 43 runs for the third wicket in just 26 balls. Captain Kerr returned to the pavilion after scoring 45 runs off 36 balls, hitting five fours.
Sophie Devine took charge from there, adding 13 runs with Brook Holliday (7) and another 30 runs with Maddy Green, helping the team reach a competitive total. Devine scored 45 runs off 30 balls, including one six and four fours, while Green remained unbeaten with 18 runs off 13 balls. For Sri Lanka, Kashvi Dilhari claimed two wickets, while Mithali Ayodhya, Sugandhika Kumari, Chamari Athapaththu, and Nimasha Meepage each took one wicket.
