Mumbai, May 9: A significant development has emerged for the millions of local train commuters traveling between Thane and Mulund. The long-awaited project to construct a new suburban railway station between these two areas has received theoretical approval. The funding issues that had previously stalled the project have finally been resolved, promising substantial benefits for passengers in the near future.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their support. In a post on the social media platform X, CM Fadnavis stated, “Heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for granting theoretical approval for the construction of the new suburban railway station between Thane and Mulund!”
He emphasized that the coordination between the central and state governments would significantly enhance the efficiency and mobility of the transportation system in the Mumbai metropolitan area.
Earlier, Chief Minister Fadnavis directed that, in light of the El Niño threat, water conservation projects and the Jal Yukt Shivar campaign 2.0 should be completed on a war footing. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to prioritize and revive areas experiencing a decline in groundwater levels.
These directives were issued during a meeting to review the activities of the Soil and Water Conservation Department. CM Fadnavis highlighted the necessity of increasing groundwater levels due to the effects of El Niño.
Priorities for water conservation and Jal Yukt Shivar initiatives should be established to ensure timely completion. State-level plans for the Jal Yukt Shivar campaign must be approved by May 15.
To expedite progress, revised plans should be made available to districts. Additionally, he mentioned that, beyond selected villages, 10% of extra work in surrounding areas should also be prioritized.
To prevent the re-blocking of cleared drains, CM Fadnavis suggested planting bamboo along the edges of these drains. The repair work on the Malgujari ponds in Vidarbha is expected to be completed by June.
He also indicated that he would personally meet with central ministers to secure additional funding under the Prime Minister’s Agricultural Irrigation Scheme. Soil and Water Conservation Minister Sanjay Rathod stated that the revised organizational structure of the department would expedite operations.
