New Delhi, August 24: The new SIM card regulations issued by the central government’s Department of Telecommunications have come into effect today. Under these rules, no user can hold more than nine mobile connections in their name. However, in certain regions such as Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, and the northeastern states, this limit is set at six.
The circular from the Department of Telecommunications instructs telecom companies to identify customers who are nearing the maximum limit of mobile connections and inform them that they cannot acquire new connections under the new regulations.
As part of these guidelines, customers must provide information in the Customer Application Form (CAF) regarding the various mobile connections they hold with different telecom operators and licensed service areas.
The circular specifies that information about customers who exceed the prescribed limit of mobile connections is available on the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) developed by the department.
To assist telecom operators, the Department of Telecommunications has created this system to help identify customers who have reached the maximum limit of mobile connections.
The new system will utilize photographs to identify these customers, and the Department of Telecommunications will send photos of subscribers who have reached the maximum connection limit to the telecom companies.
Telecom companies will be able to download these subscriber photos from the DIP.
Under the new system, if a user exceeds the allowed number of connections, their connection will remain inactive until the issue is resolved after activation.
The circular states, “Until telecom service providers implement measures based on the Customer Application Form (CAF) requirements, any mobile connection activated beyond the prescribed limit will be immediately suspended. This suspension will remain in effect until the issue related to exceeding the mobile connection limit is resolved.”
