Rising H1N1 Threat in New Delhi: Safdarjung Hospital Prepares for Seasonal Illnesses

New Delhi, August 24: As seasonal illnesses and H1N1 cases surge in the capital, Safdarjung Hospital has ramped up its preparations to combat the outbreak. The hospital administration has confirmed that medications, treatment facilities, and essential care are readily available.

In an official statement, Safdarjung Hospital declared, “We are fully equipped to handle H1N1 and seasonal illnesses. Our facility provides medications, treatment options, and necessary care. Patients exhibiting influenza-like symptoms are prioritized for timely treatment.”

The statement further emphasized that treatment is tailored to the patient’s needs and current guidelines. The hospital is closely monitoring cases and maintaining necessary arrangements.

Notably, there has been a significant increase in H1N1 cases in New Delhi in recent weeks. According to health department data, over 1,777 cases of H1N1 have been reported this year, alongside more than 2,300 cases of Influenza A in the capital.

Symptoms of H1N1, as outlined by the health ministry, may include fever, cough, sore throat, headache, runny nose, body aches, and fatigue. In response to the rising cases, the Delhi government has issued a public health advisory urging residents to take basic precautions against respiratory illnesses.

Officials recommend that individuals wear masks in crowded places, wash their hands frequently, avoid close contact with those suffering from respiratory illnesses, and consult a doctor if flu-like symptoms worsen or persist.

Earlier, a review of Delhi’s health preparedness was conducted on Friday under the chairmanship of Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda. The meeting focused on the status of H1N1 influenza, dengue, and malaria, as well as the readiness of hospitals and availability of health services.

Pankaj Kumar Singh, Delhi’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, assured that there is adequate availability of beds, doctors, medications, and essential medical facilities in hospitals. Continuous monitoring of seasonal and vector-borne diseases is being conducted, with arrangements being strengthened as needed.
