Dibrugarh, August 24: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, police in Dibrugarh, Assam, have apprehended a notorious drug trafficker. The arrest took place late at night in the Jokai Chabbis Ghar area, under the jurisdiction of the Barbaruah police station.
The operation was led by CDSP Amit Ranjan Barman from Khowang. During the search, authorities seized 966 grams of suspected cannabis from the accused. Additionally, they found cash amounting to ₹144,270, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
Police also confiscated a mobile phone, a digital weighing scale, zip-lock packaging materials, and several other incriminating items. This operation has dealt a significant blow to the accused’s entire network, effectively disrupting his distribution activities.
Earlier, on August 23, security forces achieved another major success. In a joint operation, the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police captured a prominent militant from the banned organization ‘People’s Liberation Army’ (PLA), who had a bounty of ₹400,000 on his head.
A spokesperson for the defense department reported that the 28-year-old Thiam Boycha Singh, also known as Balin, was arrested on Saturday night in Ushoi Pokpi, Thoubal district. This successful operation was based on precise intelligence from the Assam Rifles, which indicated the militant’s presence in Bishnupur district. Following this, security forces initiated a targeted search operation and successfully apprehended the dangerous militant.
During questioning, he was identified as Thiam Boycha Singh, who claimed to be a captain in the PLA and was wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He is also the main accused in the attack that occurred on November 13, 2021, in Churachandpur district, which resulted in the deaths of Colonel Vipul Tripathi, his family members, and other soldiers.
