New Delhi, August 24: Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar extended heartfelt congratulations to the government and people of Ukraine on their Independence Day. During this occasion, he engaged in discussions with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and partnerships between the two nations.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Jaishankar wrote, “Warm greetings to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, the government of Ukraine, and its people on their Independence Day. We look forward to further deepening our bilateral relations and partnership in the times ahead.”
Ukraine celebrates its Independence Day every year on August 24. Foreign Minister Sybiha announced that the United Nations Security Council would convene to discuss the consequences of the ongoing war during this significant event.
Sybiha stated in a post on ‘X’, “On the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day, the UN Security Council will hold a meeting to discuss the impact of Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. The main focus of this discussion will be the increasing missile and drone attacks on civilians in various parts of Ukraine. The recent dual attacks on a shopping mall in Kryvyi Rih, which resulted in 16 fatalities and over 130 injuries, including more than 20 children, starkly illustrate the severity of this situation. This incident serves as a painful reminder of Russia’s targeting of essential infrastructure for families, rescuers, and ordinary citizens.”
He also mentioned that they would raise concerns about Russia’s continuous attacks on Ukraine’s ports and the disruptions to grain exports. These actions are exacerbating the global food crisis, affecting millions of people far beyond Ukraine’s borders.
The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to Denmark’s presidency and his colleague Lars Løkke Rasmussen for organizing this crucial debate. He also thanked all partner countries supporting Ukraine at the United Nations. “We hope that this discussion will focus on concrete outcomes, considering the gravity of Russia’s actions,” he added.
He stated that Ukraine would demand decisive measures during this meeting to halt Russian attacks, ensure the safety of civilians, and maintain international peace and security.
