Mumbai, June 5: Neha Kakkar is now one of Bollywood’s most celebrated singers. However, her journey to fame was not easy. A notable aspect of her life is that she once participated in a reality show as a contestant, only to later return as a judge on the same platform.
Born on June 6, 1988, in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, Neha faced financial struggles during her childhood. Her family lived in a modest rented home. Growing up in a musical environment, Neha developed a passion for singing early on. Her elder sister, Sonu Kakkar, and brother, Tony Kakkar, are also involved in music.
At just four years old, Neha began singing at religious events and gatherings. Performing bhajans with her family on stage boosted her confidence, leading her to pursue a future in music. Seeking better opportunities, her family moved to Delhi, and later, Neha relocated to Mumbai with her brother Tony. Despite facing numerous setbacks, she remained determined.
In 2005, Neha participated in ‘Indian Idol’ but was eliminated early on. At that time, few could have predicted that she would one day sit as a judge on that very show.
After her elimination, Neha worked on various projects, both big and small. In 2008, she released her debut music album, ‘Neha The Rockstar.’ During this period, she also contributed to the film ‘Mira Bai Not Out’ as a chorus singer. Her career took a significant turn with the song ‘Second Hand Jawani’ from the film ‘Cocktail,’ which gained her nationwide recognition.
Following this breakthrough, her success continued to soar. Hits like ‘London Thumakda,’ ‘Sunny Sunny,’ ‘Kala Chashma,’ ‘Dilbar,’ and ‘Aankh Marey’ established her as one of Bollywood’s most popular voices. Her singing gained appreciation not only in India but also internationally, leading to a massive fan following on social media and YouTube.
Neha eventually got the chance to judge ‘Indian Idol,’ the very show where she once faced elimination. She has served as a judge in multiple seasons, mentoring aspiring singers along the way.
On the personal front, Neha married Punjabi singer Rohanpreet Singh in 2020. Their fans adore the couple, and Neha remains active in the music industry today.
