New Delhi, May 15: In the ongoing NEET UG 2026 exam paper leak case, accused Dhananjay Lokhande has been remanded to six days of CBI custody by the Rouse Avenue Court. Lokhande was arrested by the CBI on Thursday and presented in court on Friday, where the agency sought his custody, a request the court granted.
So far, seven individuals have been arrested in connection with this case.
Previously, on May 12, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the case based on a complaint from the Ministry of Education’s higher education department. The complaint highlighted serious irregularities related to the NEET UG 2026 exam paper leak. Following the registration of the case, CBI special teams have been actively investigating various leads across the country. The agency stated that inquiries with several other suspects are ongoing, and further actions will continue.
Earlier, five suspects were presented in Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday, where the court approved the CBI’s request, sending them to seven days of custody.
The investigation agency believes this case could be part of a larger conspiracy involving individuals from multiple states. Therefore, more arrests in the coming days cannot be ruled out.
It is important to note that allegations of paper leak and irregularities emerged during the NEET UG exam held on May 3, 2026, which escalated the situation. Initial investigations by agencies raised questions about the fairness of the examination process. Consequently, a decision was made to cancel the exam, and preparations are underway for a re-conduct. Given the seriousness of the matter, the responsibility for the investigation has been assigned to the CBI, which is now focused on uncovering the network or syndicate behind the paper leak and identifying all involved parties.
