NDA Expected to Surpass 100 Seats in Assam Elections, Claims Minister Ashok Singhal

Guwahati, May 1: Minister Ashok Singhal of the Assam government has claimed that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will achieve a significant victory in the upcoming state assembly elections, surpassing 100 seats in the 126-member assembly.

In a conversation with reporters, Singhal stated that when the election results are announced on May 4, the people of Assam will deliver an unprecedented mandate. He asserted that this performance will reflect strong public support for the current government.

The minister predicted that Himanta Biswa Sarma will become the Chief Minister of Assam for the third consecutive time. He emphasized that the BJP-led alliance is in a robust position across the state.

Targeting the opposition, Singhal remarked that their dreams of forming the next government are far from political reality. He sarcastically wished the opposition parties “good luck” with their aspirations, but noted that voters have already made up their minds in favor of the NDA.

Meanwhile, recent seat and vote share estimates released on Thursday indicate a clear lead for the BJP-led alliance. According to Today’s Chanakya exit poll, the NDA is projected to secure 102 seats, with a margin of plus or minus 9 seats.

In contrast, the Congress-led opposition alliance is estimated to win 23 seats, also with a margin of plus or minus 9 seats. Other parties are expected to gain about one seat.

If these estimates hold true, the BJP-led alliance will comfortably retain power in the 126-member assembly.

Regarding vote share, the BJP alliance is expected to receive around 50 percent of the votes, with a possible fluctuation of up to 3 percent. The Congress alliance is projected to garner 38 percent of the votes, while other parties and independents may collectively receive about 12 percent.

The exit poll indicates that the strong support for the ruling alliance is primarily due to organizational strength and welfare schemes. However, candidate selection, campaign momentum, and regional issues could influence the final results.
