NCW Launches ‘Shakti Dialogue’ to Strengthen Women’s Rights Across States

New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has initiated a two-day interactive and capacity-building meeting titled ‘Shakti Dialogue’ starting Thursday at India Mandapam, New Delhi. This event brings together State Women Commissions (SWCs) from across the country.

The session aims to enhance institutional coordination, share best practices, and build the capabilities of state women commissions. This is the third national-level ‘Shakti Dialogue’ within a year, following successful events held in Ayodhya and Mumbai, demonstrating NCW’s ongoing commitment to cooperative federalism in the field of women’s rights and welfare.

State women commissions from all over India are participating, making it a pan-India platform for dialogue. The programme will be inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

During the event, NCW will also launch its publication ‘Safarnama’, a collection of stories from its staff members who have been part of this journey. Winners of an online poster-making competition on the theme ‘Stay Safe Online’ will be awarded as well.

Over the two days, discussions will focus on improving complaint handling and investigation methods, enhancing management information systems and helpline services, reviewing state-specific laws, and strengthening collaboration between NCW and SWCs in legal matters.

The dialogue seeks to advance the national initiative ‘Child Marriage Free India’, develop strategic plans for district-level public hearings, and promote the exchange of innovative approaches adopted by state commissions.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar emphasized, “Shakti Dialogue is not just a meeting, it is a shared commitment. When the national and state women commissions come together on one platform, coordination becomes easier, responses faster, and solutions more grounded.”

She added, “Continuous dialogue like this is essential to ensure that laws, services, and grievance redressal mechanisms related to women reach the last woman in need.”

The programme is expected to conclude with concrete outcomes and stronger institutional cooperation, promoting the rights, safety, and dignity of women nationwide.
