Hyderabad, September 2: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has intensified political pressure on the ruling government and police administration by demanding the resignation of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and the Director General of Police (DGP) over an alleged offensive social media post by a police constable.
The controversy erupted when a serving police constable was accused of making lewd and inappropriate comments on social media against TRS leader K. Kavitha. Party leadership has filed a formal police complaint, describing the remarks as an attack on the dignity of women.
TRS national spokesperson Akash Kolluru raised concerns regarding the state’s law and order situation. He stated that the comments were highly objectionable and the matter is even more serious given that the accused is a uniformed police officer.
Kolluru alleged that despite more than 24 hours passing since the incident, no concrete action has been taken against the accused constable. He pointed out that the government swiftly acts against those protesting on social media but seems reluctant to take action against its own department’s employee.
He demanded the immediate suspension of the accused constable and called for a criminal case to be filed against him, leading to his arrest.
The TRS spokesperson emphasized that if the Chief Minister, who also oversees the Home Department, cannot take action against his own police officer, he should resign. He also called for the DGP and Cyber Crime Chief Shikha Goyal to step down, taking moral responsibility for the incident.
Kolluru asserted that this issue transcends any single political party and is fundamentally about the safety and dignity of women in the state.
Currently, the Telangana police have not issued any official statement regarding the departmental status of the accused constable or the progress of the cyber crime investigation.
