Naveen Patnaik Condemns NEET Paper Leak, Demands Resignation of Education Minister

Bhubaneswar, May 13: Odisha’s opposition leader and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) chief, Naveen Patnaik, has strongly condemned the recent leak of the NEET-UG 2026 question paper. He described the incident as a significant blow to the faith students have in the country’s examination system. Patnaik labeled it a betrayal of millions of candidates.

In a statement on his official account, Patnaik emphasized that compromising the integrity of examinations is not merely an oversight; it is a betrayal of countless candidates who have diligently studied, sacrificed comforts, and lost sleep in preparation.

The former Chief Minister pointed out that this is not the first instance of a NEET question paper leak. He noted that such leaks increase doubt and anxiety, jeopardizing the futures of hardworking students who expect fairness.

Patnaik stressed the need for accountability in response to this paper leak to restore students’ confidence in the examination system. He asserted that as a nation, we cannot gamble with the future of our youth. It is time to ensure transparency in the examination process. Immediate accountability is necessary to reassure every student that their hard work and dedication will not be rendered futile by any lapse.

Meanwhile, during a press conference at the party headquarters, BJD leaders criticized the BJP government, stating that the cancellation of exams due to paper leaks has become a common occurrence under their administration.

The BJD accused the BJP, which came to power promising a ‘New India,’ of now creating a reputation for ‘Leak India.’ They also claimed that the NEET exam has been canceled four times in the past six years.

The party has called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on moral grounds, alleging that the central government is jeopardizing the futures of 2.2 million students.

It is noteworthy that the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Tuesday that the NEET-UG 2026 exam, held on May 3, has been canceled and will be rescheduled on separately notified dates.
