Nasim Shah Faces Fitness Concerns Amid Controversy in PSL

Mumbai, April 6: Nasim Shah is encountering significant challenges. After facing a hefty fine for comments about a politician on social media, questions regarding his fitness have now emerged.

Telecom Asia Sport reported on Monday that the young fast bowler has been struggling with fitness issues for an extended period, which could lead to his exclusion from the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). If this occurs, it would be another major setback for him, especially given the ongoing controversies and now fitness concerns that could worsen his situation. This issue may escalate further, particularly if the team management and board adopt a strict stance on his fitness and professional conduct.

Sources informed TelecomAsia.net that during the match against Karachi Kings in Rawalpindi on Thursday, Nasim suffered a side strain, preventing him from participating in the previous game and raising serious doubts about his fitness.

The 23-year-old fast bowler sustained an injury during the last match of Pakistan’s disappointing T20 World Cup campaign, which led to his exclusion from the upcoming tour of Bangladesh.

Reports indicate that both Nasim’s fitness and behavior have come under scrutiny, causing frustration among officials and the medical panel of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He is likely to face reprimands for both issues and may need to complete an extensive rehabilitation program under medical supervision.

Nasim began his career with impressive performances, including a hat-trick against Bangladesh in 2020 and a strong showing in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Telecom Asia Sport cited sources stating, “Nasim’s career momentum has slowed due to his off-field behavior and excessive focus on advertisements and podcasts, derailing his career. His fitness issues also prevented him from participating in the 2023 ODI World Cup, marking a blemish on his record. Nasim is expected to appear before the medical panel led by Dr. Javed Mughal in the coming days, as the selection committee is also dissatisfied with his recurring fitness problems.”

Last month, Nasim was slapped with the largest fine in the history of Pakistan cricket, amounting to approximately $72,000. This followed his criticism of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in a tweet.

Initially, Nasim claimed that his account had been hacked, a statement the PCB did not accept. Two days later, the PCB issued him a show-cause notice before imposing the fine. Last year, he was also demoted to ‘C’ category in the players’ central contract.
