The Rise of Quick Commerce: Convenience Outweighs Price for Consumers

New Delhi, April 7: A recent report reveals that over 70% of consumers are willing to continue using quick commerce platforms even if discounts decrease. This indicates a significant shift in consumer priorities, favoring speed and convenience over price.

According to a report by Grant Thornton India LLP, local grocery stores still play a vital role in everyday shopping, remaining the preferred choice for trust-based transactions. However, 51% of consumers reported a reduced reliance on these stores over the past year.

Approximately 45% of users turn to quick commerce for last-minute or essential purchases, while 24% use it for everyday items like milk and bread. Additionally, 19% rely on these platforms for impulse buys such as snacks and beverages.

Conversely, 13% of respondents stated they are now more dependent on grocery stores, while 27% have not experienced any significant changes in their shopping habits.

The report also highlights the challenges faced by grocery retailers, including low profit margins, short credit cycles, and rising customer expectations, particularly regarding product availability and variety.

Despite these challenges, many grocery store owners are now open to connecting with digital platforms. The report is based on a survey of over 1,600 consumers and more than 1,000 grocery store owners across the country.

Around 40% of grocery retailers expressed interest in partnering with quick commerce platforms, while 32% showed interest but lacked understanding of how such partnerships would function. Furthermore, 20% of store owners indicated they would be willing to participate if provided with technical and operational support. This suggests significant potential for integrating grocery stores into digital networks in the future.

The report also noted that digital payments have become commonplace in most grocery stores, with UPI and QR code payments widely accepted. However, the use of advanced tools like POS systems, inventory management, and digital ordering remains limited due to costs, training needs, and operational complexities.
