Dubai, April 7: Alana King, the Australian women’s cricket team’s spin bowler, has once again secured the title of the world’s number one ODI bowler. Her outstanding performance against the West Indies has earned her this recognition in the latest ICC ODI rankings.
Alana first reached the number one position in March. However, her reign was cut short a few weeks later when Sophie Ecclestone overtook her. In the third ODI match against the West Indies, Alana delivered an impressive bowling spell, taking five wickets for just 19 runs in 10 overs. She bowled 44 dot balls, playing a crucial role in leading her team to a nine-wicket victory.
Additionally, Alana has strengthened her position in the ODI all-rounder rankings, climbing to seventh place and pushing Sophie Ecclestone down a spot.
Meanwhile, New Zealand players have also benefited from their stellar performances in the home series against South Africa. Maddie Green has reached her career-best ranking and secured a spot in the top 10. Amelia Kerr, with a memorable innings of 179 runs in the second ODI, has made significant strides in the rankings, moving up six places to 15th among batters. The captain of the New Zealand women’s cricket team is currently in excellent form across all formats, consistently contributing with both bat and ball.
Amelia has also excelled in her performances against Zimbabwe and South Africa. She continues to shine in T20 cricket, maintaining her status as the world’s number one all-rounder. In the ODI all-rounder rankings, Amelia has surpassed Marizanne Kapp. Other South African players have seen improvements in their rankings as well, with Chloe Tryon and Sune Luus making upward moves due to their impressive contributions. Tryon has climbed two spots to 12th, while Luus has reached 15th place.
