New Delhi, April 7: The Indian senior women’s hockey team is set to embark on a tour to Argentina for a series of four matches. This series will take place from April 13 to 17 at the Cenard in Buenos Aires. It is considered crucial for the team’s preparations ahead of the World Cup.
The upcoming series between India and Argentina is expected to be thrilling. The first match is scheduled for April 13, followed by the second on April 14, the third on April 16, and the final match on April 17. This tour is vital for India’s preparations before the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 and the Asian Games, which will be held in Belgium and the Netherlands.
In recent years, India and Argentina have had closely contested matches, showcasing several exciting encounters, including a thrilling 2-2 draw decided by a shootout in the FIH Pro League 2024-25 last June. This tour will provide an excellent opportunity for match practice against top international rivals, aligning perfectly with Hockey India’s strategic calendar. The Indian team aims to build momentum before the World Cup by delivering strong performances against Argentina. Additionally, the series will allow the team to experiment with different combinations and strategies.
Discussing the tour, Indian head coach Sjoerd Marijne stated, “We are traveling to Argentina with a squad of 24 players, and this decision has been made thoughtfully. The goal of this tour is to give as many players as possible the chance to perform at the highest level. Argentina is one of the best teams in the world, and the environment there will help us understand where each player stands. We want to see who steps up to take responsibility when it matters most. To make this team, you must first prove that you are a team player. Individual skills are important, but if you cannot work in harmony with the team and collaborate with each other, it will be very difficult to secure a place in this team.”
