The long-awaited monsoon is inching closer to Uttar Pradesh, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching summer heat. Over the past few days, pre-monsoon showers and pleasant winds have been sweeping across several regions of the state, offering temporary respite to residents. According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the arrival of the monsoon is imminent, with heavy rain alerts now issued for more than 50 districts.
Monsoon’s progress has been slightly delayed this year, as its pace slowed while crossing Maharashtra. Initially expected to arrive earlier, the monsoon is now forecast to reach Uttar Pradesh after June 18, likely entering the state through the Gorakhpur region.
Heavy Rain Forecast from June 18 to 22
The IMD has predicted intense rainfall activity across Uttar Pradesh between June 18 and June 22. Once the monsoon makes its official entry, widespread showers are expected to cover large parts of the state, transforming the weather and easing prolonged heatwave conditions.
Districts Likely to Experience Heavy Rainfall
The IMD has issued heavy rain alerts for the following districts:
Kanpur, Unnao, Kasganj, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mainpuri, Firozabad
Etah, Ambedkar Nagar, Sultanganj, Bihar region
Moradabad, Rampur, Agra, Mathura, Hathras, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Auraiya
Kannauj, Etawah, Amethi, Saharanpur, Bahraich, Gonda, Mau
Varanasi, Sonbhadra, Prayagraj, Chandauli, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Mirzapur
Noida, Shamli, Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur
Amroha, Sambhal, Ghaziabad, Badaun, Hardoi, Lucknow
In addition to heavy rains, the forecast also indicates the potential for hailstorms in some districts, particularly in Amroha, Sambhal, Ghaziabad, Badaun, Hardoi, and Lucknow.
What Residents Should Expect
As the monsoon approaches, residents in the affected districts are advised to:
Stay updated with official weather bulletins from the IMD
Be prepared for possible localized flooding in low-lying areas
Exercise caution during hailstorms or strong winds
Farmers are also encouraged to monitor the rainfall to optimize agricultural planning
With the IMD’s alerts in place, Uttar Pradesh is bracing for the monsoon’s arrival — bringing the much-needed change in weather along with fresh challenges.
