New Delhi, February 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to India on Sunday after a two-day official visit to Malaysia. He described the trip as a significant step in strengthening economic and cultural relations between the two nations.

PM Modi expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received from Malaysia, sharing delightful glimpses on the social media platform X. His posts highlighted Malaysia’s vibrant diversity and the connection with India’s indigenous communities.

In a video clip, he noted, “Last year, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim invited me to Malaysia for the ASEAN summit. Although I could not attend then, I promised to visit. Here I am, making my first international trip of 2026 to Malaysia. I am confident this visit will further enhance the economic and cultural ties between our countries.”

The video featured excerpts from Modi’s speech in Malaysia, focusing on the deep-rooted relationship between the two nations. He remarked, “India and Malaysia share a very special bond. We are maritime neighbors, and our peoples have enjoyed deep and heartfelt connections for centuries. Today, Malaysia is home to the second-largest Indian diaspora in the world. Our civilizations are intertwined through shared cultural heritage and democratic values.”

PM Modi also highlighted the Tamil language as a bridge between the two countries. He stated, “Our shared love for the Tamil language connects India and Malaysia. The strong and vibrant presence of Tamil in Malaysia is evident in education, media, and cultural life.”

The Prime Minister addressed terrorism during his visit, emphasizing the need for reform in global institutions to tackle contemporary challenges. He stated, “We support all efforts for peace. Our message regarding terrorism is clear: no double standards, no compromises. India and Malaysia will work together against terrorism.”

A trade deal was also discussed during the visit. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim remarked on India’s rapid progress, stating, “It is encouraging to see India’s remarkable advancement. Malaysia stands to gain significantly if we explore more avenues and opportunities for collaboration with India.”

Additionally, Modi shared insights on India’s vision for the Indo-Pacific region, declaring, “The Indo-Pacific is emerging as the engine of global development.” He reaffirmed India’s commitment to working with ASEAN for development, peace, and stability across the entire Indo-Pacific region.
