Mobile Internet Services Restored in Five Districts of Manipur

Imphal, April 18: The Manipur government has made a significant decision. It has lifted the temporary ban on mobile internet and data services in five districts: Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur.

The Home Department announced this order on April 18, stating that the restrictions were imposed on April 7 due to deteriorating law and order conditions. These restrictions included mobile data, broadband, and VPN services. After reviewing the current situation, the government decided to remove these restrictions.

Officials noted that the ban had caused considerable inconvenience to the public. It adversely affected access to courts, hospitals, schools, colleges, and other essential government services. Taking into account the difficulties faced by citizens, the government took this step in the public interest.

Mobile internet services have now been restored in these five districts with immediate effect. Residents can once again use the internet and social media on their mobile devices.

However, the government has urged citizens to use the internet and social media responsibly. They are advised not to spread rumors or engage in activities that could disrupt law and order. If necessary, such restrictions may be reinstated.

This order was issued by Joint Secretary (Home) Dr. Mayengbam Veto Singh with the approval of the competent authority.

The lifting of the internet ban comes as a relief to many amid ongoing tensions in Manipur. It will facilitate online education, banking, healthcare services, and various daily activities.

The government has stated that it will continue to monitor the situation closely. If there are any disruptions to law and order, appropriate measures will be taken. For now, citizens can resume their normal lives.
