Mayawati Criticizes Commercial Cylinder Price Hike as Burden on Public

Lucknow, May 2: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President Mayawati has expressed concern over the significant increase of ₹993 in the price of commercial gas cylinders. She described this hike as a severe blow to the common people, who are already suffering from inflation. Mayawati stated that imposing such a burden on the already struggling poor and middle class is against the public interest.

She urged the government to maintain a policy that regulates petroleum prices to provide relief to the public and curb rising inflation. In a post on the social media platform X, Mayawati highlighted that the substantial shortage of commercial cylinders in the country, coupled with the recent price hike, has become a major news topic across all media platforms. There is growing anxiety among the populace regarding the potential rise in prices of cooking gas, petrol, and diesel.

Mayawati pointed out that whether the actual cause is the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Israel over Iran or other factors, the government has managed to keep petroleum prices relatively stable, especially ahead of state assembly elections. She emphasized that this policy should continue for the broader public good and national interest.

She further noted that in Delhi, the new price for commercial cylinders will exceed ₹3,000. Mayawati urged the government to assess the impact of such price increases on the already inflation-stricken poor and middle classes before determining its policies.
