Bareilly, April 5: In Uttarakhand, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is opposing the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Maulana Shahabuddin Rizvi expressed his views on Saturday, labeling the UCC as discriminatory against Muslims and voicing his support for the AIMPLB.
In an interview with a news agency, Rizvi stated, “The Uttarakhand government has implemented the UCC, which has also been adopted in Gujarat. Now, this issue has gained significant importance in the Assam elections. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has announced that the UCC will be implemented after winning the elections. Muslims will never accept the UCC. I stand by what the AIMPLB has stated.”
Regarding the West Bengal elections, he remarked, “The people of Bengal desire change. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is speaking out of line with the party’s stance. He is trying to instill fear of the BJP, while the public wants to vote for development. They believe that after giving Mamata Banerjee 15 years, it is time for a change. The citizens are not satisfied with the work done by Mamata Banerjee over the past 15 years, which is why they seek change.”
Rizvi further commented on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statements regarding illegal immigration, saying, “What he has stated is completely incorrect. I do not agree with his remarks. In 1971, during the war between India and Pakistan, India played a significant role in the creation of Bangladesh. Many people came to India during that time and were given new identities. Numerous individuals have been granted citizenship here.”
He added, “In Pilibhit, there are many villages where people have been granted nationality under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). They have been provided homes, land, ration cards, and identity documents, and have been granted Indian citizenship. Did only Muslims come from Bangladesh to India? That is not the case at all. People from both Hindu and Muslim communities have migrated to India. The statement made by CM Yogi is aimed at creating bias.”
