Bareilly, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, stated on September 18 in Bareilly that the need for reservation in India has diminished. His comments come amid ongoing debates about reservation policies in Maharashtra.
Barelvi highlighted significant changes in people’s economic conditions over the years. He noted that many individuals who once lived in huts now reside in solid homes. “People’s circumstances have improved significantly. Those who found it difficult to buy a bicycle now have multiple motorcycles and cars,” he remarked. He argued that due to these advancements in economic, social, and educational status, no community should require reservation, advocating instead for equal status for all to eliminate discrimination.
He also referred to the various movements in Maharashtra where different communities are demanding reservation, leading to protests. Barelvi emphasized that these movements put pressure on governments, suggesting a need to reconsider the current reservation framework.
“I have observed that the country has made considerable progress over the last two to three decades,” he added, asserting that it is time to resolve the reservation issue and bring it to an end.
In related discussions, BJP legislator Ram Kadam addressed concerns from the Congress party regarding the OBC quota in Maratha reservation. He mentioned that the Maratha community understands that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis initiated the reservation process. Kadam stated that out of 13 demands made by the community, 12 have been fulfilled, with the 13th now under judicial review. He emphasized that the crucial point is the support of the current state government for the people of Maharashtra.
