Kolkata, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : In Kolkata, BJP leaders have sharply reacted to the ongoing divisions within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regarding the allocation of new party names and election symbols. They assert that regardless of the opposition’s consolidation, the BJP will secure victory in the upcoming Nandigram by-election.
Archana Majumdar, a BJP leader, commented on the TMC’s name selection, stating, “The party chose its own name. It is not something imposed by others. Mamata Banerjee‘s TMC has selected three names, all closely linked to her.” She also criticized the allocation of election symbols, saying, “The symbols given by officials are what the respective parties desired. Mamata Banerjee has always been associated with the slogan ‘Khela Hobe.'”
Regarding the Nandigram by-election, Majumdar claimed, “Even if Mamata Banerjee, Congress, CPI(M), and other regional parties or independent candidates unite to contest in Nandigram, the BJP will still win. Our candidate is a local resident.”
Central Minister Sukanta Majumdar addressed the withdrawal of the AITC candidate’s nomination, stating, “I am unsure why they withdrew, but it was clear we would win in Nandigram. Now, the margin will be much larger than expected.”
Responding to claims that former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is under house arrest, Sukanta Majumdar remarked, “Her inability to step outside is due to the atrocities committed during her tenure as Chief Minister. The government has not restricted her movement, so I do not understand why she is making this an issue. In politics, there comes a time when leaders must gracefully exit the stage.”
On Congress’s support for Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, Sukanta Majumdar stated, “No, they will all come together. The current situation is that the BJP stands on one side, and everyone else on the other. Moving forward, we will face this reality. The BJP has become the ruling party in the state, prompting everyone to compromise their interests to unite.”
In response to claims by the opposition leader in the assembly, Ritabrata Banerjee, about collusion between Mamata and the BJP, Sukanta Majumdar countered, “I believe Ritabrata has no significance in Bengal’s politics. His previous election win was due to being a TMC candidate. Now, he seems to be making excessive noise, which will not be heard in the next election.”
As the Nandigram by-election approaches, political tensions are rising in Bengal, with all parties launching attacks against one another.
