New Delhi, June 9: Manoj Jha, a Member of Parliament from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has sharply criticized the recent changes made by the central government to the Ujjwala scheme. Under the revised plan, subsidies will now be available for only four cylinders per year, a significant reduction from the initial twelve. This change follows previous cuts, first to nine cylinders and now to four. Jha expressed his concerns during an interview with a news agency on Tuesday.
Jha questioned the government’s actions, stating, “What is this government doing? It is evident from its functioning that it has completely lost touch with the public’s interests.” He pointed out that while the Ujjwala scheme initially provided subsidies for twelve cylinders, this number has been drastically reduced without any public outcry. He criticized the media ecosystem that seems to support the government, claiming it falsely portrays a positive narrative.
He emphasized the current plight of middle and lower-middle-class families, urging people to engage with those affected by these policies. “I request you to go among these individuals; they will reveal the reality to you,” he said. Jha called for a bilateral dialogue between the government and the public to address these pressing issues.
Additionally, he described the recent meeting of the India bloc as productive, noting that it facilitated extensive discussions on various points. He mentioned that the Congress party has assured cooperation in maintaining a positive approach towards the India alliance in the future. Jha stated that the discussions were open and comprehensive, with no points overlooked.
