Manoj Bajpayee Reflects on Sacrificing Family for Dreams

Mumbai, August 18: National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee recently opened up about the deep sense of guilt he has felt throughout his life regarding his family. An old clip of his conversation with filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt resurfaced online, where he discusses the regret of leaving his parents behind in pursuit of his dreams.

In the video, Bajpayee stated, “The biggest thing I left behind, and you will relate to this, was my parents, especially my mother. Over the past 20 years, I have never spent more than ten days with them. I still feel a strange kind of regret that in the race to fulfill my dreams, I left my parents behind. When I invited them to my first screen award, they came for just two days. During our conversation, they told me, ‘Son, remember, those who don’t succeed are not fools.’ Only a mother could say something like that.”

He further shared a memory from a two-day visit to Delhi. After showering and styling his hair, he asked, “Mom, how do I look? I look good, right?” She replied, “Son, when fame and money come, even a donkey looks beautiful.”

Manoj Bajpayee had a very close relationship with his mother, Geeta Devi, who was a homemaker and a significant source of strength throughout his life. The actor has often spoken about the sacrifices and support of his parents during his challenging journey to becoming an actor.

Geeta Devi passed away on December 8, 2022, at the age of 80 after being ill for nearly 20 days, receiving treatment in a hospital in Delhi. Almost a year before her passing, in 2021, the actor lost his father.
