Srinagar, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : The inaugural Jammu and Kashmir International Film Festival wrapped up after four successful days in Srinagar. According to the Chief Minister‘s office, this event marks a new chapter in the development of the film industry in the region.
A highlight of the festival was the special floating cinema screening on Dal Lake, where audiences enjoyed classic films projected on the water. The festival also featured a variety of films from different countries, including new releases starring popular Bollywood actors.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized that the festival was not just about showcasing beautiful locations but also aimed to provide opportunities for local young talents. During the event, emerging writers, filmmakers, and artists were offered training and hands-on learning experiences.
He stated that this initiative has firmly placed Jammu and Kashmir on the national and global film industry map. At the closing ceremony, the Chief Minister described the festival as a symbol of the region’s clear intentions. He noted that Jammu and Kashmir is ready to welcome filmmakers from across the country and the world through its film policy. The government is working to create a year-round film ecosystem that supports both external filmmakers and local talents equally.
During his address, the Chief Minister revealed that over 120 films from more than 30 countries were showcased during the festival. He remarked that the event has revitalized prestigious cinema on the waters of Dal Lake.
Additionally, he expressed that Jammu and Kashmir’s vision extends beyond being just a traditional shooting location. The goal is to develop the region as a creative hub where local stories can emerge, new talents can flourish, and a robust filmmaking environment can be established.
He is confident that such events will play a crucial role in positioning Jammu and Kashmir among the leading film and creative centers in the country in the future.
