Bengaluru, August 28: Central Minister HD Kumaraswamy has sharply criticized the Congress government in Karnataka, raising serious questions about development projects, corruption, and recruitment processes in the state. During a press conference, he quipped that perhaps the government leaders fell asleep after his last briefing.
Kumaraswamy questioned the actual development happening in the state and how beneficial it is for the common people. He highlighted issues such as ministerial resignations, the KPSc scandal, and the chaos during the final phase of the assembly session. He suggested that if there had been detailed discussions on bills related to land acquisition, parks, tunnel roads, business corridors, and solid waste management, significant controversies could have arisen.
He also targeted the state’s Home Minister, stating that the minister comments on every issue, often in a manner that resembles “a goat nibbling on leaves.” Kumaraswamy pointed out that while the government claims to maintain transparency and clean administration, the recent KPSc controversy has eroded public trust in the institution.
He alleged that the KPSc has been politically misused for several years. Once known for its reputation, the institution is now mired in allegations of appointments based on caste and money. He asserted that if he comes to power, he would take steps to abolish the KPSc and the KAT, reiterating that this would be done constitutionally.
Kumaraswamy raised concerns regarding the controlling officer of KPSc, IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar. He cited allegations that a veterinary officer’s appointment allegedly involved a demand of 8 million rupees. Gyanendra Kumar had mentioned on August 23 that he would return in two days, but later it was revealed he was in Kharge on August 25.
He also referred to the Parappana Agrahara case, stating that he had consistently raised this issue. Kumaraswamy accused the government of attempting to suppress the opposition’s voice for speaking out against it.
Regarding the recruitment process, he noted that the government is discussing the hiring of 75,000 government employees, but it took them three years to announce job opportunities for the youth. He cited the example of the Assistant Engineer Grade-1 recruitment, where the notification was issued on September 3, 2022, the written exam took place on June 16, 2023, and the personality test was conducted on September 15 and 16, 2023. The final selection list is set to be released on January 31, 2024. He raised concerns about transparency in the recruitment process and the handling of complaints.
