Manipur Chief Minister Flags Off New Vehicles for Excise Department to Combat Illegal Liquor

Imphal, March 3: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh emphasized the urgent need for strict monitoring of foreign liquor consumption and action against illegal liquor activities in the state.

On Monday, the Chief Minister flagged off five new vehicles for the Excise Department. These vehicles aim to enhance surveillance across the state and effectively curb illegal liquor-related activities.

In a media interaction, he stated that this initiative will be crucial in preventing illegal liquor trade and strengthening enforcement at the grassroots level. He described it as a significant step towards improving the department’s efficiency and mobility.

A senior official noted that since the partial lifting of the liquor ban in certain areas of the state on December 6, 2023, pure Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) is being made available to the public in a controlled and regulated manner.

However, he clarified that strict monitoring and continuous field oversight are essential to ensure that the government’s decision remains intact.

The Chief Minister mentioned that the addition of new vehicles will significantly enhance the department’s field operation capabilities. With improved mobility, officials will be able to respond promptly to field requirements, conduct inspections more effectively, and ensure better coordination between various stations and zones.

Several legislators and senior officials from the Excise Department were present at the event.

In another program, the Chief Minister inaugurated a model residential school and a new science and arts block at Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School in Imphal East district under the Prime Minister’s Jan Vikas Programme.

Later in the day, the Chief Minister met with a delegation led by Peter Kuba, president of the Naga People’s Organization (NPO), at the Civil Secretariat.
