Atlético Madrid Faces Setback as Julián Álvarez Ruled Out Against Real Sociedad

Madrid, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Atlético Madrid has suffered a significant blow ahead of their La Liga match against Real Sociedad. Forward Julián Álvarez has been ruled out due to a muscle strain sustained during training.

Initially included in coach Diego Simeone’s plans for the trip to San Sebastián, Álvarez had to withdraw after injuring himself in Saturday’s training session. The Spanish club confirmed his absence following medical tests. Atlético Madrid stated, “Julián will not travel to San Sebastián due to a muscle strain, which led to his removal from yesterday’s training session. After necessary tests, the medical staff has ruled out his participation in today’s match.”

This injury comes at a crucial time for Álvarez, who had recently returned to Simeone’s starting lineup. He played a full 90 minutes in Atlético’s Champions League match against Liverpool last Wednesday. His absence leaves Atlético without a key attacking player as they strive to recover from consecutive defeats. The team previously suffered a loss to Athletic Club at San Mamés before falling to Liverpool in Europe.

Álvarez’s unavailability could exacerbate Atlético’s attacking woes. Both Pablo Barrios and Alexander Sørloth are also sidelined, leaving Simeone with limited options for the forward position. The team will hope that the remaining players can step up and help them secure a victory at the Reale Arena.

Simeone’s biggest challenge now will be ensuring that the team’s attacking play does not falter in Álvarez’s absence. After a poor start to the season, Atlético urgently needs to accumulate points, making consistent performances essential. Currently, they sit eighth in the La Liga standings, having won two of their four matches and drawn one. The 11-time champions will aim to improve their position against Real Sociedad.
