New Delhi, February 19: A young man has been arrested by police in the capital for allegedly deceiving individuals into believing he could secure them jobs using a fake identity card.

According to reports, a patrol team from the Kotwali police station detained the suspect on Wednesday near the Delhi Chalo Park, behind the Red Fort, while he was in a suspicious vehicle. A minor was also present in the vehicle, who was later connected with their family.

During the search, police discovered a purported identity card from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the suspect’s possession. Initial investigations revealed that this ID card was counterfeit.

Authorities clarified that the NIA does not issue such identity cards. The investigation revealed that the suspect used this fake ID to intimidate individuals, promising them government jobs.

Preliminary questioning revealed that he had promised a job to a minor from an economically disadvantaged family in Delhi. Taking advantage of the family’s financial struggles, he also collected an advance payment from them. Both had arrived in Delhi from Kashmir on February 12 and were staying at a guest house in the Jama Masjid area.

Sources indicate that the suspect pretended to explore job opportunities through some alleged contacts in Delhi but failed to make any concrete arrangements.

His activities appeared suspicious, prompting police surveillance. During questioning, discrepancies in his statements and documents led to the exposure of the fake ID card.

The police have filed a case against the suspect for fraud and forgery. Joint inquiries are ongoing with special investigation units, intelligence agencies, and other relevant departments. The police are also investigating how many individuals the suspect has deceived in this manner. Further investigations are underway.
