Man Arrested for Defrauding Widows on Matrimonial Site in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, June 14: A 44-year-old man has been arrested in Ahmedabad for allegedly posing as a Hindu widower on a matrimonial website. He reportedly deceived widowed women by fabricating stories about his personal life and presenting fake documents to gain their trust, ultimately defrauding them of money and property.

The accused has been identified as Karim Sipai, a resident of the Sarghatani Valley in Mehsana district. Following a complaint filed at the Women’s West Police Station, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch apprehended him.

According to investigators, Sipai created a profile under the name Aditya Patel on a popular matrimonial platform. He concealed his true identity and claimed to be a childless Hindu widower.

Police revealed that he specifically targeted lonely widows, establishing relationships and asserting that his wife had passed away, leaving him to live alone.

To bolster his false identity, the accused allegedly submitted fake Aadhar, PAN, driving license, and passport documents. He also provided forged certificates indicating his wife’s death.

These documents were intended to convince victims that his background and personal circumstances were genuine.

Investigators allege that once he gained a victim’s trust, Sipai would promise marriage and then create various excuses to collect cash and other valuables.

The arrest stemmed from a complaint in which the victim reported a loss of approximately 70,000 rupees and a two-wheeler.

The fraud came to light when a suspicious name appeared during a phone conversation on a caller identification app.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the address provided by the accused was false. A thorough examination of the documents and other information eventually confirmed that the man claiming to be Aditya Patel was, in fact, Karim Sipai.

Inspector NB Kalsariya from the Women’s West Police Station stated that the accused is 44 years old. He had taken around 70,000 rupees and an Activa from the victim. Sipai is a Muslim who pretended to be Hindu to deceive women on matrimonial sites. He is married and has two children, with his family residing in Kadi.

Officials believe that the complaining woman is not the only victim, as Kalsariya mentioned that Sipai has defrauded more than two women.
